Second generation computers used the transistor for increased performance and to replace the cumbersome vacuum tubes of the first generation. The transistor was created by J. Bardeen, H.W. Brattain, and W. Shockley. This computer used the programming language 2GL. This led to the computer also being smaller than it's predecessor.
